Hope N’ Encouragement

October 30, 2006

i think that this book is about hope and encouragement because the old man wanted the fish and that was his dream so thats what he went after. the old man had great hope that he would catch the fish because otherwise, i don’t think he would let the fish pull him out to sea that far. i don’t really understand what he meant about the lions at the end of the book but thats all good, i ‘ll figure it later. the old man probably would not have been able to keep going if he didn’t contradict himself throughout the whole ride. he had a very eventful ride but still held on and didn’t let the fish, in the beginning, or the sharks, in the end, get the better side of him. i think that the old man had great hope that he would catch this fish he had been dreaming of all his life. he knew from the beginning that he was going out to catch the biggest fish he could haul and thats exactly what he did. he did not let his weekness nor his hunger get to him and he kept on fighting. hemmingway wanted to finish his dream. he wanted to show the boy that he was not worthless because of the fact that the boy looked to him like a mentour.

What is Hemmingway Like?

October 30, 2006

Edward Hemmingway was very dedicated to his writing. althought he is not very descriptive in his writing either. he doesn’t really paint that picture in your head the way i would like  him to. i mean i understood the story but after reading parts of moby dick, i realized i probably would have understood more of hemmingways if he was more descriptive. the positive thing about his writing thought is that he is not afraid to write what he feel. he writes what he feels and what he sees not caring what anyone else thinks about it. hemingway grew up in the afflucant chicago suburb of Oak Park. he was the son of a physician father and a musically inclined mother. hemingway was a great writer in childhood and throughout highschool however his writing was not legable so he recieved poor grades for his work. his family spent alot of their time at a cottagfe they owned. this was where hemingways father taught him to fish. and finally on july 2, 1961 hemingway killed himself at his home in idaho.

Decleration Of Independence

October 10, 2006

The purpose of The Decleration of Independence was to gain our independence from britain by telling them that we no longer wanted to be part of their government and that if they could not cope with that that we would not be happy and would make war. This would affect the way he wrote it because he wanted it to be written by what the people here in america thought. They considered the audience to be all of America. My current audience is a group of 8th graders and my purpose is to rewrite the Decleration of Independence so that they will be able to understand it. If i had a choice, i would want my audience to be a group of adults so i wouldn’t have to rewrite it because they would already understand it. I think my blog is probably not that easily understood but thats all good cause i understand it. i dont know how to answer the rest of that question so i m gonna move on. I am writing for a group of 8th graders. My style of writing is suited for a teacher and friends. It is that way because it does matter what the spelling is like and how my punctuation is . I dont think i need to change the way i am writing becuase i have considered the fact that i am writing for a group of 8th graders.

So much to write!

October 4, 2006

Recently, i have noticed that the old man is beginning to become somewhat scared. He is really wondering where the fish is headed and why the fish isn’t going with the flow of the current. Instead, the fish is somewhat pulling the boat against the current into the east. The old man has looked back and realized that they are no where near land becuase he can not see it. The old man is really getting lonelly and he is beginning to talk to the annonymous animal that is pulling him out to shore and the bird that landed on his boat sail. He really wishes that he had the boy with him so he would have someone to talk to and so he would have some help with the lines. He would probably like some help to hold the lines while he could try to clean up his cuts on his face and his hand. He has realized that this fish might never stop and that maybe he should eat something for the energy. He has some tuna that he said he wanted to eat before it got bad. He is telling himself that even if he is not hungry by morning he should still eat the tuna.
